Associations between hippocampal subfield volume and cognitive performance

چکیده
Background It is well demonstrated that hippocampal atrophy associated with cognitive impairment. Existing studies have smaller volumes dementia, and volume reduction has been established as a biomarker for the conversion of mild impairment to Alzheimer’s Disease. Although some examined correlations between subfield domains such memory, further research needed clarify associations each various domains. So far few conducted among Asian populations. A more specific understanding these relationships crucial given functional histological differences in subfields their distinct patterns atrophy, which imply may affect cognition differentially. This study aimed investigate 12 on performance Singaporean sample. Method 448 patients at memory clinic Singapore (97 no impairment, 177 CIND, 174 dementia) underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) neuropsychological assessment. MRI was processed through free surfer (v.6.1) extract subfields—the tail, subiculum, presubiculum, parasubiculum, CA1, CA3, CA4, fimbria, fissure, molecular layer, granule cell layers dentate gyrus (GCMLDG), hippocampus-amygdala transition area (HATA). Cognition assessed using NINDS–Canadian Stroke Network harmonization battery. Result Global GCMLDG (all p-values < .0005). Except all were visuospatial skills .05) .035). The fimbria most domains, including executive dysfunction (p = .011), language .006), visuomotor function .003), .001), .001). Conclusion current builds existing dysfunction. Longitudinal are required volumetric decline.

Does white matter structure or hippocampal volume mediate associations between cortisol and cognitive ageing?
Elevated glucocorticoid (GC) levels putatively damage specific brain regions, which in turn may accelerate cognitive ageing. However, many studies are cross-sectional or have relatively short follow-up periods, making it difficult to relate GCs directly to changes in cognitive ability with increasing age. Moreover, studies combining endocrine, MRI and cognitive variables are scarce, measurement...
متن کاملHippocampal Transcriptomic Profiles: Subfield Vulnerability to Age and Cognitive Impairment
The current study employed next-generation RNA sequencing to examine gene expression differences related to brain aging, cognitive decline, and hippocampal subfields. Young and aged rats were trained on a spatial episodic memory task. Hippocampal regions CA1, CA3, and the dentate gyrus were isolated. Poly-A mRNA was examined using two different sequencing platforms, Illumina, and Ion Proton. Th...
متن کاملThe association between hippocampal subfield volumes and education in cognitively normal older adults and amnestic mild cognitive impairment patients
Objective Previous research has indicated that there are potential associations between education and total hippocampal volume in the trajectory of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the correlation between education and hippocampal subfield volumes in the progression of AD has yet to be understood. This study examined the relationship between education, which is a standard proxy for cognitive ...
متن کاملHippocampal subfield volumetry in mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease and semantic dementia☆
BACKGROUND Hippocampal atrophy is a well-known feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but sensitivity and specificity of hippocampal volumetry are limited. Neuropathological studies have shown that hippocampal subfields are differentially vulnerable to AD; hippocampal subfield volumetry may thus prove to be more accurate than global hippocampal volumetry to detect AD. METHODS CA1, subiculum and...
متن کاملAutomated Hippocampal Subfield Segmentation at 7T MRI.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE High resolution 7T MRI is increasingly used to investigate hippocampal subfields in vivo, but most studies rely on manual segmentation which is labor intensive. We aimed to evaluate an automated technique to segment hippocampal subfields and the entorhinal cortex at 7T MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS The cornu ammonis (CA)1, CA2, CA3, dentate gyrus, subiculum, and entorhinal...
